Public Question #1 Loses in Monroe County
This morning, I was informed by a friend of mine that Public Question #1, that abominable Constitutional Amendment which will now be polluting the Indiana Constitution, actually lost narrowly here in Monroe County. This surprised me because at the polling place at Read Center, where I served as the poll's Inspector, it actually won even though all the Democrats on the ticket won.
I have to admit that this is a very, very small victory when compared to the serious losses we suffered here in Monroe County, in Indiana, and in the United States as a whole. I mention it, nevertheless, because I believe that I can say with confidence that this victory belongs to Democracy For Monroe County.
This victory came despite the odds that were stacked against it even here in Monroe County. It came because DFMC refused to let this Constitution Pollution pass without a fight even though no other organization, big or small, was willing or able to fight it as we did.
DFMC is a very small organization right now. One would barely need two hands to count the number of active members in it. From this we can learn two lessons.
- The first can be summed up by the adage, "If you think you're too small to be effective, you've never gone to bed with a mosquito."
- If we can achieve this victory with such a small number of active members, imagine what we could do if we had 20 or 30 active members.
