Help DFMC Fight Public Question #1

Back in 2008, Governor Daniels and his allies got the Indiana General Assembly to pass legislation which drastically changed the way your property tax bill is calculated. It supposedly was designed to save Hoosier property owners money on their tax bills. Unfortunately, no one benefited from this new law except those who owned very expensive homes. Furthermore, the new law resulted in a serious loss of revenue coming to the local governments. This loss was supposed to be covered by an increase in sales tax, but that didn't happen. As a result, local governments have been forced to cut services, lay off police officers, fire fighters, and other important personnel.

Now the Governor and his cohorts would like to make this law virtually permanent by amending it to the Indiana Constitution. To do this they are asking the public to vote yes on Public Question #1 There is really no logical reason to do this - only cynically political ones. This is nothing less than Constitution Pollution and it must be stopped!

Democracy For Monroe County is determined to do just that. We have just published a tri-fold literature piece explaining why Public Question #1 is unfair, unnecessary, and unconstitutional. Preliminary indications tell us that we will need to print at least 1,000 more copies. In addition to this we also want to publish door hangers to distribute in the neighborhoods, and produce yard signs. All this of course will require money.
